The Kativasti treatment procedure involves dough made of whole flour or black gram flour and water. A herbal decoction or medicated oil is selected according to the individual’s bodily constitution and doshas. The person lies down and the dough is placed like a ring in the lumbosacral area of the spine. It is then glued with lukewarm water after which the herbal decoction or medicated oil is poured into it. The medicated herbal oil remains in the confinements of the dough mould. Its therapeutic properties eventually permeate and reach the tissues.
